E-toll the greed

Here I go again, raising another debated issue that has all South African motorists enraged especially those in Gauteng where a decision was made for us by authority and its structure. This is another disabled reputation from the government, because not only did the public dispute to the installation of e-tolls, but we are faced with all these money making structures, as if the toll gates aren't enough

How many of you are trying to find alternative routes that don’t lead you into passing the e-tolls roads? My mom tries that all the time lol, but it’s really hard because the main highways are hard not to end up on. As a SA citizen myself I agree that we basically pay for breathing in this country. Social media platforms are imprinted with people’s rage about having to pay for the e-tolls, thus creating communities that support all protests against the e-toll. It’s amazing how social media channels allow us to connect with people that have a mutual understanding with our own. When I look at the socio-impact of e-tolls it is visible that the public have the power to decide whether they want to go on with it or have it dismantled.

Lack of transparency has been the trademark of this e-toll  project. I mean even before it initiated  questions directed to SANRAL about why a foreign company was used and many more were left unanswered, their lack of honesty and trustworthiness raises concerns because there needs to be transparency between Government and citizens especially when the matter consists of capital .

 

I support the efforts of discontinuing the e-tolls and they stretch as far as Cosatu's strikes and drive slow campaigns on the busiest highways such as the M1, M2, N1 and the N12, expected to grab the Government’s attention on how the public feels about the project. I even witnessed a group of citizens on the N12 highway that held up a huge banner that read “Hoot to no e-tolls” 


We all know the PR stunts and encouragements of ‘building a better SA’ via e-tolls from Dipuo Peters, Minister of transport have failed flat only because this issue was handled poorly from the beginning. I think that the decision of erecting e-tolls disrespects road users and doesn't take into consideration the financial aspects of motorists. My question is how better could this situation been handled, and you think people will eventually accept the fact that they need to pay for the e-tolls to raise funds for the road infrastructure?

I agree with you refilwe the was a lack of transparency from the beginning of e tolls it is sad because motorist have tried everything to stop e tolls but no success has come out of their efforts, E tolls are still up and running, motorists get bills every month from SANRAL so I don't think anything will be done to solve this issue as we all know that the only solution is to stop them and this seems to be impossible

And there i was thinking that we vote for a Government that will do things that are in our best interest. i strongly believe that the public has the power and voice through social media,anti-e toll campaigns and the protests of not getting e-tagged and even paying their e-toll bill... i think that maybe the Government will give on this one.... Majority rules

  4. Bad movement, bad management and bad planning. You cant just open a business and don't consider your consumers needs and also, you do not just plan a campaign and think that the public would adhere to it because you are a citizen authority. That is creating a bad reputation for your company and organisation. in Public Relations there's planning research and making sure that you find a problem with a solution. So, I guess the government didn't do proper planning

  7. i have to agree with you Fifi .From the very begging it was just a bad decision taken by the SANRAL not to mansion the lack of transparency.It was a bad move by not communicating with he citizens first.

  14. Cost of living is already high in SA and as usual or rather typical of the SA government there was no transparency with regards to these e-tolls. Like you said we pay for breathing in this country as well.
