'When it all comes tumbling down'
I’m so over whelmed by the excitement of
blogging, I don’t even know where to start, yes it’s my first time and I've
been stumbling back and forth like any other inexpert would. The topic I’m
about to talk about here today is rather controversial and sure it will raise a
lot of opinions.
It’s the 18th month since the
renowned athletic amputee has murdered his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp,
and everyone is still talking about it, but my ultimate question; is if Oscar
Pistorius will ever regain his reputation after his murder case has become a
world-wide statistic of world icons that have sparked the media with a negative
story. In my opinion Oscar Pistorius has tarnished his career and mostly
especially his image, I mean, youngsters that looked up to him as an icon and whole
public no longer see him as they did before since the murder, could the media
have had an influence in this negative attitude? I feel that it was such a good
thing that the South African law legalized people to share comments and
feelings about the Oscar trial on social media platforms such as twitter and Facebook.
Isn't it obvious that all brands would never
want to associate themselves with a name that would dare to damage or threaten
their own image and reputation? Likewise all brands and sponsorship's initiated
pulling off Oscar as their brand ambassador, including Nike of course, I would
too. I think we all know by now how bad publicity travels faster than good,
especially with citizen journalists that distribute news even before we hear it
from the paper or television the following day.
Efforts of PR in the beginning was Vuma
Reputation, a South African PR firm http://goo.gl/ITY0G5
which released Oscars word for word seven page affidavit document of his
version of how Reeva came to die, did they maybe think that this document would
in any way rebuild his reputation, or change the minds of those who believed
that he’s undoubtedly guilty of the murder? from where I’m standing I don’t
think any PR firm can be able to rebuild Oscars reputation regardless of his
bail or even if he may be found ‘not guilty’ which Vuma Reputation later realized
as they no longer represent him now http://goo.gl/bm602D.
The sad
reality is that in the mention of ‘Oscar Pistorius’ instant words like
‘Murderer, killer, shooter’ are associated with him, it’s shocking how this one
incidence has wiped out the fact that Oscar Pistorius was once a multiple Gold
medal winner at Paralympic games and summer Olympics 2012 and how he once made history by competing with
able athletes.
This has been a topic that has had the whole
town buzzing since this year and bzzzzz CONTINUES…

Oscar is a public figure whatever decision that will be taken the whole world will know and whether he`ll be found guilty or not it will take a miracle for any PR agency that will want to rebuild Oscar`s reputation, but hey as you said for now the buzz continues
ReplyDeleteThat's true Zinhle I totally agree with you, whatever decision the Judge will make, Oscar has created a reputation for himself that cannot be forgotten by many, and i'm sure the whole world cannot wait to hear the final verdict even though they think they already know Oscar's fate is. bbbzzzzzzzzzz
ReplyDeleteAll i can say is that Oscar might be able to escape going to prison, but getting back his good reputation is something that we will all have to wait and see, and for this to happen his Public Relations team must have some amazing tricks up their sleeves because people do not just forgive and forget that easy.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you guys , his reputation is already at risk , we all just waiting for the judgement on the 11th sept , Oscar team will have to work hard to rebuild his career
ReplyDeleteyes Palesa id like to emphasize on "people do not just forgive and forget that easily" because that's the very same point i'm trying to raise here, this has been a case that has touched and involved everyone and it cannot be forgotten even in the next five to ten year, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA Like i said Mmathabo, no one wants to associated with Oscar at the moment, even his PR team has bailed out on him, to me that's evident in how frankly impossible it will be for any PR firm to be able to rebuild his reputation again.
ReplyDeleteI totally have to agree with you, Oscar damaged his own reputation, whether the judge finds him guilty or not, the public have already made their decision and will not find Oscar credible and trustworthy anymore I don't think that any brand wants to associate themselves with a person that has such a bad reputation.
ReplyDeleteWell I believe Oscar reputation is shattered.I mean seriously we only remember him as a murder not a as a an Olympic medalist come on he is a goner, can you say prisoner number .....40102....I think Iam guessing his prison number
ReplyDeleteI know that Oscar's reputation has been ruined by his actions, but I honestly believe something can be done to regain his reputation back despite the outcome of the Verdict.I mean with good PR and support of the Public he can certainly regain the trust people have lost for him but it will take time and worth it in the end...
ReplyDeleteI think that as much as Oscar damaged his reputation, he can still regain it in time, especially if he is proven not guilty.
ReplyDeletelaughing out loud!!!!, Pachida, i totally agree girl, prison is where he belongs and we wait and see for the 11th of September if the SA law agrees with the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteDazzling and Laura, i see you girls still believe that Oscar can still regain his Reputation, but at this point in time i don't see the light in this dark end pit
ReplyDeleteI think Oscar's trail has brought him more fame than ever before but I don't think any brands would want to associate themselves with him especially when there's a lot more revealed about him not forgetting that in PR we value reputation and if your reputation is the same as Oscars then I think you fading.
ReplyDeleteHe might not go to prison but no brand will want to associate themselves with him. his reputation is shuttered.
ReplyDeleteOscar Pistorius' image is tarnished and I doubt it will ever go back to what it was especially considering that his court was broadcast on national television. But with that being said I cannot help feel sorry for him all his hard work has come to nothing because of his stupid decisions.
ReplyDeleteReputation firstly is a very difficult yet very simple thing to build and also destroy. In relation to this controversial issue of the Oscar trial it would be difficult to rebuild it because firstly as an individual Oscar is a public figure that many follow and also keep record of his doings. My question goes back to author of the blog do you disagree with my statement that in this manner it would be difficult to regain and rebuild trust and reputation for Oscar the paralympic runner?
ReplyDeleteDavid those are valid points that you have made there and i totally agree with you, in answering your question, like iv'e been saying all along the regain of Oscar's reputation is highly almost impossible at this present time.
ReplyDeleteThese go back to the O'jay Simpson's case. He killed his wife, walked away scotch free but never regained his image. Oscar may walk away free. of which I doubt. The fact is the reputation is ruined and unlikely to be regained. You suffer for whatever action you take and I guess in this case, he made his bed he should definitely lay in it.
ReplyDeleteindeed Amanda quite frankly he has to face the consequences of his actions and be responsible enough to face his debts.
ReplyDeletei personally think that Oscar will be sentenced on the 11 of September they were just procrastinating the case just to suck him dry before they sentence him.
ReplyDeleteWoW that's very sad information you just brought to light, but hey, we all have to take responsibility of our actions regardless.
